African and Cambodian Facebook Scammers Caught

Phnom Penh: On June 15, 2019, the Phnom Penh police sent an African man and a Cambodian woman to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on charges of fraudulent activities through Facebook. .

The suspect, NWOSU MARTINS, 31, of South Africa (more likely Nigeria) and his lover, a 35-year-old Cambodian, created Facebook accounts fraudulently contacting the victims and promising to send money.

Using tricks, the vicitms were asked to pay for the services and taxes by sending three subsequent WING transfers (the first $ 550, the second $ 5,300, and third $ 4,700).

A complaint was filed with Phnom Penh police, and after research, forces detained suspects on June 11, 2019, and found that the suspect had tricked hundreds of victims.

With this case, Lieutenant General Rath Sreang, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie of Phnom Penh, warned people to be more careful about these kind of internet frauds.
