American Cruise Lines Returns To Service March 13

American Cruise Lines plans to sail on the 13th. March, nearly a year after the company voluntarily suspended shipments due to the spread of the coronavirus.

The line’s inaugural cruise will take place aboard the 100-passenger Independence, which will sail an eight-day coastal itinerary through the historic South and Golden Isles from Amelia Island/Jacksonville, Florida to Charleston, South Carolina.

The next cruise will be a Mississippi River cruise from New Orleans to Memphis on the brand new American Jazz, a modern 190-passenger riverboat on the 21st. March.

We look forward to exploring this beautiful country once again aboard our small, modern river and coastal vessels with a capacity of 100 to 190 passengers.

Another cruise operator, the American Queen Steamboat Company, is also planning a return to the rivers with the American Duchess on the 15th. March from New Orleans to Memphis and the American Countess on the 28th. March from Memphis to New Orleans.

Current trend

These companies are allowed to operate during a pandemic because ships carrying fewer than 250 people are not subject to a ban issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition, American Cruise Lines’ first cruises in 2021 will be voluntary, with a 75 percent occupancy rate and a free overnight stay on board prior to the cruise. The carrier will require negative COVID-19 test results for all passengers and crew members.

Customers must provide proof of a negative molecular PCR or COVID-19 test within four days of the start of the cruise. A licensed physician performs a brief medical examination of each guest. If the medical officer deems it necessary, an additional COVID-19 test will be performed in the ship’s medical facilities.
