Marriott International Introduces The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands
March 9, 2021
WHY THEY COST: In June, the Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, will join other renowned Marriott brands such as W Maldives, JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa, Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa and St. Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, welcomes guests to their own paradise in a vibrant and secluded setting of the Indian Ocean. – Lori Baratti, editorial assistant.
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, which opened on the 1st. June this year is home to 100 villas that embody the true spirit of the Maldives. The minimalist circular architecture and philosophy of wholeness reflect the culture and environment of the Maldives. The turquoise lagoon immerses visitors in the cycle of island life, connecting them to their surroundings and endless horizons. According to Marriott International, the ideal white sand beaches have been sprinkled with powdered granules to soothe visitors so they can relax even more.
There’s the blues, and then there’s the Maldives blues. Where the sea meets the sky, the incredibly beautiful atolls are warmed by the sun but gently cooled by the sea breeze.
Not surprisingly, the smallest country in the Indian Ocean, the Asian archipelago has long been a destination for those seeking exclusive luxury, privacy and exceptional travel experiences.
But the fact that the country is now one of the few open to visitors from around the world – provided they have had a negative Covid PCR test in the previous 72 hours – has made it more attractive than ever. There is also a sense of security and freedom to be outside more or less all the time, as the villas are invariably open to the warmth of the elements.
North Male Atoll is just a 45-minute drive from the international airport, allowing visitors to dive turquoise lagoons and coral reefs teeming with marine life within hours of landing. One- and three-bedroom villas offer the refined elegance and legendary service that characterize the Ritz-Carlton brand, while exceptional international and local cuisine in seven restaurants and bars completes the wonderful journey for all five senses.
Minimizing the impact on the fragile reef ecosystem was a top priority when planning the station. Thanks to innovative methods and pre-assembled materials, there was no need for any cutting on the island, which reduced the amount of heavy work required and, above all, eliminated waste and pollution. Thanks to the widespread use of solar panels and the inherent resilience of the building materials, this amazing architecture has also achieved a low carbon footprint.
The Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, located on the island of Tilamafushi, also opens this year. Another fascinating destination. The station reflects a mid-century design aesthetic inspired by the era of glamorous travel, presented through a Maldivian lens.
Tilamafushi is a natural island, which in Dhivehi, the language of the Maldives, means an island with vast shallow lagoons. Guests can enjoy the reefs, coral gardens, marine life and underwater peaks, known as tila, which are full of colorful marine life, including manta rays and turtles.
Guests can dine at six restaurants and bars and enjoy Le Méridien’s Explore Spa, while families will enjoy Le Méridien Family Centre with its experiences that encourage discovery and conservation.
For the ultimate in seclusion and luxury, Hotel St Martin is the ideal place to stay. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort offers an ultra-luxury package at the John Jacob Astor Estate. When visitors combine the best address in the Maldives with the most sought-after villa in the Indian Ocean, it’s an extraordinary entity that truly deserves the word unique.
Organized experiences will provide guests with an unparalleled sense of privacy and personal service. St. John’s Hospital, appropriately named after John Jacob Astor, founder of St. John’s Hospital, is the largest in the world. St. Regis, this two-story, three-bedroom villa is the largest villa in the Maldives, with impeccable design and panoramic views over 16,500 square feet.
World-class facilities, including a spacious terrace and plush pool terrace with a 92 sqm infinity pool and dining room, are served by a fully equipped show kitchen, a butler’s pantry and a private chef. John Jacob Astor Estate’s ultra-luxury package, which offers absolute privacy and is accompanied by a private office in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Regis Butler, is ideal for travelers looking to spend a vacation with family or friends.

The JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa has 60 2,520-square-foot villas with private pools and wooden decks from which to choose sunrise or sunset views. The thatched roofs of the villas are reminiscent of the dhoni boats, traditional Maldivian wooden fishing boats that sail the azure waters of the Maldives. The rooms are inspired by nature and the local culture of the Maldives, with colours and materials that reflect the island country’s famously peaceful pace of life.
Young adventurers will love discovering the magic of the underwater world and island life in our self-contained JW family – Little Griffins – built around a pirate ship! The daily activities of children take them on the real adventure of their lives.
For those looking for an all-inclusive package with an idyllic tropical atmosphere, the Maldives offers just that. The resort’s extreme take on the island, starting at $199,000, offers guests their ideal private playground. The 77 escapes are either in beach bungalows surrounded by lush tropical foliage and a white sand beach, or in a villa on the water with direct access to the beautiful and abundant house reef, home to exotic fish, reef sharks, turtles and eagle rays.
The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is located on Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that is home to one of the largest concentrations of manta rays in the world. It offers a thoughtful lifestyle vacation, perfect for those looking for a holistic wellness vacation in these challenging times. Nature, nutrition, spa, yoga and functional exercise help promote the health of visitors. With a complimentary 60-minute treatment, couples can choose one of the treatments offered at the Heavenly Spa by Westin™ to revitalize the body and mind with personalized sensory experiences. With four restaurants serving food and beverages, visitors can return to culinary delights and be surrounded by beautiful beaches.
The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is the perfect destination for romantics, as its Furanafushi location is a veritable Garden of Eden, an island paradise with private corners, enchanting views and manicured gardens. From fresh seafood at Sea Salt to aromatic spices and the warmth of Baan Thai, the resort’s restaurants have something for everyone. Champagne picnics on the sandbanks, candlelit dinners on the beach or sunset cocktails in Anchorage make this another day in paradise.
Wherever you are in this truly breathtaking country, one thing is certain: You’ve found paradise, literally.
