9 reasons to get a Citi American Airlines business card now
Gary Leff at 16. February 2021.
I get paid for the content and the many links of this blog. Citibank is an advertising partner of this site, as are American Express, Chase, Barclays and Capital One. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and have not been reviewed, approved or endorsed by my advertisers. I don’t write on every available credit card. Instead, I focus on miles, points, and cashback (and the currencies that can be converted into those same cards). The general terms and conditions apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.
In the near and distant past, I had a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard®, and it was this card, on which I spent money, that largely explained my very first elite status with American Airlines in 2006. American miles are the currency I’ve spent the most in over the years, and there’s no other way to earn miles with a credit card than the American card and then transfer them to AAdvantage.
And AAdvantage miles remain mine for now, whether it’s to book Qatar Airways’ QSuites for next year or Cathay Pacific’s award tickets back to Southeast Asia. All awards booked this year can be cancelled and miles reallocated free of charge – so these miles are the perfect way to reschedule your trip.
Here are 9 reasons why I think it’s a good idea to purchase a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard®:
65,000 Bonus Miles The initial offer for this card is a generous 65,000 AAdvantage miles after spending $4,000 in the first 4 months after account opening.
Get this bonus for the two best products in the world Get the bonus and meet spending requirements and you’ll get 69,000 miles. Moreover, it costs 70,000 euros to travel from the United States to the Middle East, or from India or the Maldives to Qatar. You can even fly in Qatari suites, which may be the best business class in the world. (There is something to be said for ANA’s new business class under this name).

A business class flight from the United States to Southeast Asia also costs 70,000 miles, and you can use airlines like Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Cathay Pacific.
It’s almost like having gold status, yet you rarely get gold without upgrades. The card provides first class checked baggage on American Airlines domestic flights and priority boarding on American Airlines flights.
There is no annual fee for the first year of the card, so the initial bonus is not tied to the $99 annual card fee, nor are other card benefits such as free checked baggage and boarding privileges charged.
First class prize. AAdvantage miles are very useful if you want to redeem them for international first class tickets, because they partner with some of the world’s best airlines, airlines that offer an international first class product and make first class available to their points partners. I’ve been lucky enough to regularly redeem miles for First Class on Qantas, Cathay Pacific and Etihad, not to mention that First Class is available on Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and British Airways.
Qantas first class
Doesn’t count against your 5/24 The Citibank Business Cards you carry don’t count against your personal balance, so you don’t have to account for the 5/24 Chase limit. You can get this card without having to click on this counter.
You can earn personal and business miles from Citi and Barclays The miles you earn with this offer won’t stop there. Citibank also has a personal AAdvantage card, and American Bank also partners with Barclays for co-branded credit cards. As I’ve heard repeatedly from flight attendants, you can get AAdvantage cards at both Citi and Barclays. These are four cards that can be obtained by winning the same kilometers of currency.
Credit cards do not allow you to earn AAdvantage U.S. miles faster. Delta and United have banking partners whose own products earn points faster than the co-brands, where it makes sense to put your spending on another card and transfer it (from Amex) to Delta or (from Chase) to United. However, there is no credit card that allows you to earn AAdvantage US miles faster. The card earns 2 miles per dollar at American Airlines, telecommunications companies, cable and satellite providers, car rental agencies and gas stations. It’s not my expense card, but it does allow me to take advantage of a lower interest rate and earn more AAdvantage reward miles.
Anecdotally easy to get I’ve had this card in the past, but the last time I became a pickpocket, I was approved without a problem. The lectures were also a great success.

frequently asked questions
Is it difficult to get the American Airlines card approved?
But in general, you must have an outstanding score of at least 760 to earn rewards on a Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard. However, it is possible to score lower if other aspects of your loan portfolio appear attractive to the issuer.
What is the required credit score for the Citi American Airlines card?
All Citi cards – including Citi American – require a credit score of at least 660, but your best chance of getting approved is 700+.
Is the Citi AAdvantage Executive Card worth it?
The Citi AAdvantage Executive card is a fantastic card that I personally have and recommend, but only if you fly in America often. If you fly frequently in America, an Admirals Club membership is very valuable, and the best way to get into the Admirals Club.
